The period tracking app helps you assess whether your period is normal or if you're losing too much blood. This is important because heavy blood loss can indicate a clotting disorder, such as von Willebrand disease, or other clotting disorders. This disease is the most common inherited blood clotting disorder in our population, and worldwide. Its main symptom is prolonged mucosal bleeding, for example, during menstruation.
With the app, you can easily keep a log of your period. It asks you about the amount of blood you lose and takes into account which menstrual product you use: tampon, pad, or menstrual cup. You also indicate whether the capacity of your chosen product was sufficient. Your mood during your period also plays a role: Are you, for example, irritable and stressed, or do you feel relaxed and energized? Enter this information into the app.
The period tracking app analyzes your data and summarizes the results in a score (PBAC score*). If this score is below 100, it's unlikely you have a clotting disorder. A calculated score above 100 suggests you may have von Willebrand disease and should see your gynecologist. To help you prepare for your appointment, the app provides a cycle questionnaire, which you can print out or download as a PDF.
