About this app

Your pattern pieces come back true to scale. The text comes back in your language.

You bought a sewing, knitting or crochet pattern as a PDF in a language you do not read. This app translates the text and leaves everything else exactly as the designer drew it.

THE PATTERN SHEET IS ONE PROBLEM

In sewing, the sheet decides how the garment turns out. Scale it by two percent and it no longer fits. Shift the alignment marks and the tiled pages will not line up. This is where ordinary PDF translators fail: they rebuild the page and redraw it in the process.

This app works differently:

• No AI redraws your artwork. Pattern pieces, alignment marks, size lines, knitting charts and crochet charts are carried over from the original untouched.

• The PDF is rebuilt, not pasted over. The translated text sits where the old text sat, in the same box. Nothing is stretched, moved or scaled.

• The scale stays. Page size and aspect ratio are those of the original. You print and tape the sheet exactly as before, and the test square measures what it should.

THE CRAFT TERMS ARE THE OTHER

A plain translator turns the German rechts into right. In a knitting pattern it means knit. It turns Maschenprobe into stitch sample instead of gauge, and the French endroit into place instead of the right side of the fabric. The result is a mixture you only notice halfway through the piece.

This app translates with a craft dictionary for sewing, knitting and crochet. You get the terms your patterns actually use and the abbreviations you already know.

MEASUREMENTS AND SIZES

• Centimetres are converted to inches, in size charts and in the gauge as well.
• For crochet you choose between US and UK terms. The same abbreviation means a different stitch depending on the region.

HOW IT WORKS

1. Pick your PDF from Files, Downloads or Drive.
2. Pick the language you want to read. The app detects the source language itself.
3. Start the translation. It runs on the server, so you can close the app. Most patterns take a few minutes, a thick bundle takes longer.
4. The finished pattern lands in your library. From there you read, share and print it.

YOUR LIBRARY STAYS ON YOUR DEVICE

Every finished translation lands in the app's library — on your device, not on someone else's server. From there you open the pattern in your PDF app, print it or share it. If you want to keep a translation for good, back it up like any other file.

17 LANGUAGES

English, German, Spanish, French, Dutch, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Italian, Croatian, Polish, Russian, Portuguese, Czech, Finnish, Hungarian, Turkish. You translate between all of them and switch the app itself too.

YOUR DOCUMENTS STAY YOURS

A server does the translating, because a phone cannot. Both the source file and the translated file are deleted after delivery. Patterns are protected by copyright, translated ones as well. That is why there is no way to publish or pass one on.

WHAT IT CANNOT DO

• Keep the original typeface. The app sets the text in its own, easy to read font. Measurements and layout stay, the look changes.
• Handle patterns over 50 MB or over 50 pages.
• Scanned patterns without selectable text.

TRY IT ON YOUR OWN PATTERN

Five translations are free. Take the pattern that is annoying you right now, print the sheet and measure it. Then decide.

No trial that quietly turns into a subscription, and no charge without your consent. To set up your library you sign in with your Google account or with email and password.

SUBSCRIPTION

Pattern Translator Plus includes 20 translations per month and documents up to 50 MB and 50 pages. The subscription renews automatically until you cancel in the Play Store. The terms of use are in the app under More.
