About this app

Aves can handle all sorts of images and videos, including your typical JPEGs and MP4s, but also more exotic things like multi-page TIFFs, SVGs, old AVIs and more!

It scans your media collection to identify motion photos, panoramas (aka photo spheres), 360° videos, as well as GeoTIFF files.

Navigation and search is an important part of Aves. The goal is for users to easily flow from albums to photos to tags to maps, etc.

Aves integrates with Android (from KitKat to Android 14, including Android TV) with features such as app shortcuts and global search handling. It also works as a media viewer and picker.

Haven't used it much so far, but it's pretty good, better then the default gallery. Only thing holding it back from a 5 for me is that I can't see folders inside folders, and that sort order for viewing is applied to all folders and not individual ones. Another qol addition would be having a similar image preview within images, to navigate an album easier, as gallery. if these already exist, or if they're added, I'll find them and change my score. Edit: thanks for the help!

Regarding folders within folders, maybe you'll be interested in the Explorer page, or making groups in the Albums page. Regarding preview within images, maybe you mean Settings > Viewer > Overlay > Show thumbnails.

Lovely interface, and it boasts a lot of features I've been looking for. Unfortunately, I've found that, if you have a lot of photos, the app can be incredibly laggy, negatively impacting things like video playback and general browsing, in a way that Google's otherwise inferior Files app does not struggle with. EDIT: To answer Thibault's question, I have 35,280 items on my phone that Aves can display, adding up to roughly 38 GB of content.

Absolutely wonderful photo gallery app with just a couple of quirks. I can't for the life of me work out how it chooses the thumbnail image for each album/folder. Sometimes it's the image with the newest "modified" date, but sometimes it's something that I can't identify. In what may be a related issue, its image sorting is unpredictable: I choose to sort by file name and it does so... mostly... with some baffling out-of-order exceptions in every album/folder. Still my favorite gallery app.
