About this app

Aves can handle all sorts of images and videos, including your typical JPEGs and MP4s, but also more exotic things like multi-page TIFFs, SVGs, old AVIs and more!

It scans your media collection to identify motion photos, panoramas (aka photo spheres), 360° videos, as well as GeoTIFF files.

Navigation and search is an important part of Aves. The goal is for users to easily flow from albums to photos to tags to maps, etc.

Aves integrates with Android (from KitKat to Android 14, including Android TV) with features such as app shortcuts and global search handling. It also works as a media viewer and picker.

Awesome gallery app. There's plenty of customization options, but not to the point where it's overwhelming. I love that I can change the 'home' view to show only a specific filetype, hiding all of the RAW images. The literal only thing I can think to add is the ability to search a location on the map, and also to zoom in on the user's current location. As-is, you have to pinch to zoom from the entire globe, which can be time consuming. Especially annoying if you have images from a LOT of places

I feel you cause I have the same issue, but getting the user location requires extra permission. Also, there's no free service to get coordinates for a location search, so I preferred to forgo that feature and keep the app free.

I've been using Aves ever since the free gallery app that came pre-installed on one of my older phones (Samsung Galaxy Note 8) got decommissioned, and I have been very pleased with this one's relative simplicity, customization options, and lack of ads! And now that I've switched to a Google Pixel, I especially appreciate that it doesn't try to push images it "thinks" I should share or create a "collage" with or other such nonsense that Google Photos keeps foisting on me. Aves is truly a keeper!

If you want a between experience this is the app for you. Videos will freeze and if you skip ahead you will need to force close the app in order to continue watching. Terrible at organizing your photos. essentially photos are always piled into one folder even if you've moved them into another folder. If you delete from the main folder it will delete photos across all folders. so you can't organize according and remove redundancies. This app is clearly still being developed and needs work.

You clearly didn't use the same app as everybody else. Maybe you have an unusual notion of "folders". In any case, if you encounter issues, you can report them following the instructions in the app About > Bug Report section.
