About this game
The word that fits into the grid, based on the letters you already have. No account, no registration, and completely offline.
SQUARES, NOT A CODE TO REMEMBER
Other word search tools require you to learn a wildcard character and count your empty squares. Here, the grid is on the screen. You adjust the number of squares with two large buttons, tap a square, and type the letter you know. The remaining empty squares are the letters you're looking for. There's nothing to memorize and nothing special to type.
From 2 to 20 squares. Suggestions appear as you type, sorted by frequency of use: the likely answer is at the top.
OR BY DEFINITION
Type the clue — "river," "bird of prey" — and the app searches the 57,551 definitions in its built-in dictionary. The definition and the number of entries are combined on the same screen: you don't have to choose between searching by clue and searching by letters.
ANAGRAM MODE
All your letters, rearranged, with up to two unknown letters.
WRITTEN TO BE READ
Four text sizes are available from the first screen and can be changed at any time in the Settings. They are added to the Android setting instead of replacing it, so enlarging here never shrinks the text.
The four screens are in a bar at the bottom, with their names written under each icon. The buttons are 56 pixels wide instead of the standard 48. Contrast is measured and verified by testing, in both light and dark modes.
IT WORKS OFFLINE
The glossary, definitions, and their index are within the application. Nothing to download on first launch, nothing to wait for, and no searches are sent over the network. On the train, in the countryside, on a plane: the same answer, at the same speed.
694,181 inflected forms of French, 57,551 definitions, and an additional 18,895 proper nouns, displayed only if you request it.
WHAT YOU KEEP STAYS
Favorites and your last fifty searches are saved on your device, with their actual spelling, including accents.
WHAT IT DOESN'T
It doesn't guess the answer to a word game, and it doesn't photograph the grids. The definition search looks for your words in the dictionary definitions: it responds very well to descriptive clues, less well to word games. We prefer to state this rather than let it be discovered.
PRIVACY
No account, no server, no sensitive permissions: no location, no contacts, no camera, no storage. Searches don't leave your phone because there's no reason for them to.
The application displays ads, and it waits until it has been used: the first three successful searches show none.
