Kinly is for the moment you feel unsafe and want someone to know.
You choose a small group of people you trust — your Circle. Family, close
friends, a neighbour. If you need help, you press one button. Everyone in
your Circle is told at once, and shown where you are.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Build your Circle. Send an invite code to the people you would want beside
you. Nobody joins until they accept, and anyone can leave at any time.
2. Press Get help. From the app, or from the Kinly widget on your home
screen. A short countdown gives you time to cancel an accidental press.
3. Your Circle is alerted. They see your live location as it updates, and can
answer "on my way", "calling 999", or that they cannot come — so everyone
can see who is doing what instead of all setting off at once.
When you are safe, you mark yourself safe and the sharing stops immediately.
HEARD WHEN IT MATTERS
A Help Alert is the one notification in Kinly allowed to behave like an alarm.
With your permission it sounds through silent mode and Do Not Disturb, because
the people most likely to be in your Circle keep their phones quiet at night,
which is exactly when an alert is least likely to be seen. Nothing else in the
app does this — invitations and replies arrive as ordinary notifications.
YOUR LOCATION, AND WHEN IT IS SHARED
Your location is shared only while an alert you sent yourself is active, and
never at any other time. There is no way for anyone in your Circle to look up
where you are. Kinly cannot be used to keep track of a person, and it is built
that way on purpose.
When you mark yourself safe, or cancel, location sharing stops at once.
WHAT KINLY IS NOT
Kinly does not replace the emergency services. It does not call 999, the
police or an ambulance for you, and it cannot promise that anybody answers or
arrives — it tells the people you chose that you need help. A Call 999 button
sits on every alert screen so the real emergency number is always one press
away.
If you are in immediate danger, call 999.
WHO IT IS FOR
Anyone who has walked home uneasy, works alone, travels on their own, or
simply wants a short list of people who would know. You can be in someone
else's Circle without having one of your own — being the person who turns up
is a complete way to use Kinly.
PRIVACY
Your Circle, your alerts and your location history are stored in the United
Kingdom. The location you shared during an alert stays with that alert as part
of its record, so the people who were there can see what happened afterwards.
You can delete your account from inside the app. Deleting removes your
profile, your Circle, and every location point ever recorded for you.
