About this app

Massive exposure and input is one of the most essential parts of learning a language. If you feed your brain enough real sentences, enunciating, and dissecting them word by word, phrase by phrase, you will develop an intuitive understanding of how to use the language, even without a strict study of the grammar.

In this app I've included over 1000 Tagalog phrases with audio recorded by a native speaker, many of which have contextual notes that teach grammar points in a step-by-step manner. There are also 22 full Tagalog conversations illustrating natural usage of the language in continuous narratives and cultural contexts.

As you study the phrases, you'll naturally notice words, patterns, and structures that occur more frequently. Your brain will make its own set of rules for the language based on experience and application rather than a theoretical understanding of the grammar. There is also less of an emphasis on memorizing vocabulary words because you'll be seeing the most essential words frequently in the phrases themselves and your brain will remember them better because of the contextual understanding you'll have for them.

Features include:
- phrase building exercises
- real-word conversations with word definition breakdowns
- categorized flash card memorization activity
- multiple choice vocabulary quiz game
- categorized vocabulary terms
- grammar reference pages that teach sentence structure, conjugations, and pronouns
- phrase & vocabulary search

A little about me: I grew up in Utah, USA, but I lived in the Philippines on the island of Panay from 2010 to 2012 (as a Mormon Missionary). While there, I learned to speak Ilonggo, Tagalog, Aklanon, and Karay-a. Since then I've continued to study the many languages of the Philippines as I work to provide resources for learning and preserving them.
