Unlock Your Dreams: A Research Study on Lucid Dreaming
Have you ever wanted to realize you were dreaming while still asleep? Join our research study exploring how mobile technology can influence the dreaming mind.
What is this study about?
The purpose of this research is to investigate whether sensory cues—such as specific sounds, light, and gentle vibrations delivered via a smartphone—can help individuals experience lucid dreams (the state of being aware that you are dreaming while the dream is happening).
What will you do?
If you choose to participate, your involvement will last for 8 nights:
• The App: You will download a specialized research app and place your phone next to your pillow while you sleep.
• Pre-Sleep Training: Each night before bed, you will complete a short (20-minute) training session within the app.
• Morning Surveys: Each morning, you will fill out brief questionnaires regarding your sleep quality and dream experiences.
• Sleep Environment: Because the app uses light and sound cues, we ask that you sleep alone during these 8 nights to ensure the most accurate data and to avoid disturbing others.
Who can participate?
You may be eligible to join if you meet the following criteria:
• You are 18 years of age or older.
• You are currently located in the United States.
• You are not currently enrolled in a class taught by Professor Pattie Maes.
• You are not a member of Professor Maes’s research group at MIT.
Important Information
• Voluntary Participation: Your participation is entirely voluntary. You may withdraw from the study at any time without penalty.
• No Guarantees: While our goal is to study lucidity induction, we cannot guarantee that you will have a lucid dream during the study period.
