This should include far more information - like at the very least show IPA charts. I will keep it on my phone since I already paid for it but had I known it was this simplistic I wouldn't have and wouldn't suggest it to others.
One of a kind teaching tool I use this app in my volunteer work teaching adult literacy. My learner is an English as a Second Language adult. I have no idea how I could teach these skills - the connection of various letter combinations to various mouth shapes - without this app. At $2.99 it is a bargain beyond compare.
Playing video a buggy after Android update When I first downloaded this app in late 2015 it was amazing! Exactly what I needed at that time. Since my phone updated to Lollipop, it seems that there is a problem with video playback. Instead of playing a video if just the sound I select, it plays a bunch of sounds in sequence before returning to the sound page. Given what I'm using it for this is very frustrating behaviour, and renders the app completely useless for my purposes. Any chance of an update to fix this problem?
There is a mistake on this app. One of the sound symbols "/ j /" is misrepresented. If you go to the app home page then go to CONSONANTS then go to PLACE then select "lingua-palatal" then at the bottom, the last symbol to the right "/ j /" is misrepresented. The correct symbol to represent the sounds of the world examples "job, badger and cage" is / ʤ / Can you please fix the app?. This will confuse people who are learning English. I paid for this app and I would like to recommend it to my friends so they can buy it too. Thanks a lot.
Highly satisfying. This app is extremely helpful for foreigners who have a totally different mother tongue like Asians to learn American English pronunciation. I always wondered if my pronunciation is right whenever speaking English and somehow felt lacked confidence when I obsessed with the "right" pronunciation. This app gave me a big help cos it explains the steps to make a sound academically, which is very trustworthy. Look forward to their releasing this app for German learners as they said on their website.
Excellent but not perfect Two suggestions. 1) It would be nice to have larger animations on tablets. 2) Being able to look up off an IPA chart would be easier for learners who aren't familiar with the technical terms. Also, it crashes when exiting the app on my tablet and phone with Android 4.4 and 4.3 respectively (crash reports have been submitted).
The ultimate mobile English pronunciation aid, for both students AND teachers.
