AppInsight shows you what the apps on your phone are allowed to do and what they include – clearly explained, completely on your device, without an internet connection.
WHY APPINSIGHT IS ALLOWED TO SEE ALL APPS
AppInsight reads the list of all installed apps. Without this list, there would be nothing to examine – and an incomplete list would be worse than no list at all, because the missing app can be the most problematic one. For each app, AppInsight reads its information (name, version, permissions, signature) and its installation package, which makes Android readable for every app. Data from other apps is not read: no messages, no photos, no contacts, no documents. Everything stays on your device. AppInsight has no internet access and cannot send anything.
WHAT YOU SEE
• Permissions explained in everyday language – what camera, location, or "usage data" access really means for this app, and whether the access is currently active
• Trackers in the program code – bundled advertising, analytics, and crash libraries, identified by their components in the code
• Servers in the program code – which addresses of known tracking, advertising, or analytics services are present in the code
• Security signals – such as allowing unencrypted network traffic, openly accessible components, and an outdated target Android version
• Network rules – which servers the app is allowed to contact unencrypted and whether it uses hard-coded certificates
• A status indicator for each app and an overall view of your device
• Storage, usage time, and data consumption per app – if you grant "usage data" access yourself
• Reports as PDFs or HTML, individually or for the entire device
WHAT APPINSIGHT DOESN'T CLAIM
AppInsight shows what an app is allowed to do and what it includes – not what it's doing at any given moment. A library in the code doesn't mean it's sending data. That would require monitoring the data traffic, which AppInsight deliberately avoids. The traffic light rating is an assessment based on fixed rules, not a judgment about an app. For pre-installed system apps, this indicates if you can't change their permissions.
INTERNET BLOCKING PER APP
You can block internet access for individual apps. This works via a local VPN service on your device that doesn't forward any data traffic and has no external server: packets are dropped for blocked apps. There's no VPN server, no proxy, and no logging. Android asks for your permission beforehand.
DATA PROTECTION
• No internet permission – AppInsight can't send or receive anything
• No account, no login, no server
• No advertising, no analytics services, no crash reports
• No cloud backup – Android data backup is disabled for AppInsight
• Privacy policy and legal notice fully integrated into the app, even offline
