Speech therapy application: voice exercises
This app is for children and adults who need practice for their vocal errors. With the help of the application, it is possible to practice the sounds that are the targets of speech therapy in various words and sentences. Interesting pictures, fun exercises and games motivate you to practice and help you reach your goal, i.e. clarity of speech, with the help of repetitions.
The application contains articulation exercises at word and sentence level. In addition to children, the application can also be used by adults to support their pronunciation and speaking exercises. The application is also suitable for children and young people who speak Finnish as a second language. The application has a lot of photos on different topics. The pictures have objects, things, verbs and descriptive vocabulary. With the help of pictures and exercises, vocabulary growth and memory development can also be supported.
The speech therapy - articulation exercises application has been developed in cooperation with speech therapist Johanna Yli-Salomäki. The exercises proceed systematically from easier to more difficult: from short words to longer and more challenging ones, and from short phrases to slightly longer sentences.
The application contains exercises for the 12 most common consonants in the Finnish language (d, h, j, k, l, m, n, p, r, s, t, v) and the vowels ä, ö, y. The words to be practiced have been carefully selected by taking into account the place of the sound in the word, the degree of difficulty of the sounds and the word structure. Before practicing, it is important to discuss the vocabulary to be practiced with the speech therapist in order to determine the right level of difficulty.
The application has various exercises such as recognizing the word heard, repeating a word and a sentence, a memory game and a useful sound and listen function. Articulation practice is helped by the possibility to record and listen to your own pronunciation and compare it with the given model. A Finnish speaker gives a pronunciation model in the exercises.
Please note that
- the exercises do not replace speech therapy visits with a speech therapist. Using Svellus helps daily exercise at home by making it more fun and motivating. It is important that there is an adult supporting the client and present during the training.
- before starting the training, the client must know how to produce the sound to be practiced separately and in easy syllables, so that the wrong way of turning does not persist and become stronger. The exercises and games help to produce the learned sound in different sound contexts and in different words and sentences, so that the sound becomes established in speech.
- if you are not sure what you should practice, ask the speech therapist in your area.
