About this app

The Yle app always keeps you up-to-date and in the center of events. Here you can find Finland's most reliable news from home, the world and your own town. For sports fans, the application offers the highlights of numerous prestigious competitions live and in the best parts. With the Yle application, you can also be a part of the events yourself: vote for your favorite UMK or chat with others during the Eurovision and Linna celebrations. The functions familiar from Yle Uutisvahti can now be found even better in the Yle application. Using the For you and Nearby lists, you can choose which topics and areas you want to follow in the My section of the application.

If you are a Uutisvahti user, you can automatically transfer your current subject emphasis to the Yle application. You can make a transfer using your Yle ID when you log in for the first time.

Ratings and reviews

Unlike the old app, I cannot set my list (Omat) to show me only English news. You can still read the English news but you must go through menus each time. Selecting "News" or "Yle News" as the Omat categories has no effect. In the old app in the settings, I could unselect Finnish, Swedish, Sámi etc. languages and only display English. EDIT: No improvements from the developers, had to uninstall and use the website. Pity, the old app was great.

Went down from a simple and functional app to a messy blob. Would have preferred to stay in the clear aesthetics of the previous app instead of being forced to try out this hot mess. There is no pattern or idea behind the new app, save for the desire to emulate the tabloid press websites by overloading your feed with worthless videos, over sized pictures and useless scrollbars. In trying to skip the tabloid style clear separators between stories, it leaves you with a blurry waste bucket feel.

EDIT: Reviews describing the start screen freeze date back many months, this one to October 2020. Just updated (late Feb 2021) - still not working. No dev comment either. App sadly fully useless. -- As described by several others before, the app does not respond to any input at all and thus stays stuck in the start-up screen. Closing, clearing cache, reinstalling - no luck. Samsung A5, Android 8.0
