About this app

The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife is excited to announce a new Sport Fishing Regulations Mobile Application for Washington State!

Washington State offers anglers some of the most diverse fishing opportunities available anywhere in the world. In a single weekend, you can dig for clams, troll for salmon, drop a pot for Dungeness crab, fly fish for steelhead, trout or bass, jig for halibut or rockfish, and bait fish for catfish, tuna, lingcod or sturgeon. Maintaining this variety of fishing opportunities necessitates correspondingly diverse―and sometimes complex―fishing regulations.

To make these regulations easier to understand, Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife developed the Fish Washington mobile app.
Browse for places to fish.

Tap on a body of water to see what you can fish for and retain, gear restrictions (if any), etc.

Search for your favorite fishing spot and see the regulations; for today and for that upcoming trip.

Filter for target species.

Share your experience or favorite fishing spot with friends and family.

Get real-time notifications about changes to regulations, emergency rules, etc.

Before the latest upda, you could search for a particular river or section of river. When you did that it would zoom into the area on the map and give you the regulations (usually up-to-date) for that area. Now if you search for a river or section of rive#r, then click on it in the drop down menu, only a few rivers will zoom into that area on the map and show the regulations. Most searches don't do anything and clear the search bar making the app basically useless.

Saw an ad for this app at the DOL, thought "hey cool let's see my tax dollars at work!".. I've reinstalled this 208MB app twice, along with the 20 separate downloads it has you do EACH TIME you open the app.. never got it to work, even once. Great internet connection, I know that's not the problem. The app finally loaded a map at one point, but that's all it was, zero information, and it didn't work again after that.

Hi Kyle. You are correct. There were significant issues with the app that were causing it to take forever to launch and download unneeded files repeatedly. I am happy to report that we have fixed a ton of issues. Please update the app and provide us feedback about how it is working for you now. - Jake Shapley, Application Developer, WDFW

Mostly useless. Half of the time spent in the app is of the maps updating, which it doesn't tell you that it's doing. So you sit there and click the body of water that you want, and it does nothing. Restart the app, body of water disappears all together. Restart the app, clicking the body of water does nothing. Restart the app, it works. Recieve random pop up of "Do you want to rate our app?" Click yes. App crashes. When it does work, I suppose its nice. No emergency rules though.
