About this app

Living with lactose intolerance should not mean second guessing every grocery run. Lactose.help scans a product barcode and tells you in 2 seconds whether you can eat it.

Our Lacto-Score, inspired by Nutri-Score, rates every product from A to E based on the maximum lactose risk per 100g. No more deciphering labels, no more anxiety in the dairy aisle.

STOP PAYING FOR "LACTOSE FREE" MARKETING
Products labeled "lactose free" are often significantly more expensive than their standard equivalents. But hundreds of regular products (chocolate, bread, deli meats, ready meals, cheese, snacks) are naturally low in lactose or lactose free, without any label highlighting it. Lactose.help helps you find them in any aisle, at normal prices.

THE LACTO-SCORE
Each grade represents a maximum lactose threshold per 100g, not an exact measurement. You get a clear risk ceiling to compare against your personal tolerance.
- A: lactose free (0g per 100g)
- B: very low (up to 0.5g per 100g)
- C: moderate (up to 1g per 100g)
- D: high (up to 1.5g per 100g)
- E: very high (over 1.5g per 100g)

WHAT THE SCIENCE SAYS
According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) scientific opinion, most lactose-intolerant individuals tolerate up to 12g of lactose in a single dose without notable symptoms, and the most sensitive generally remain symptom-free below 3 to 5g per dose. The Lacto-Score helps you stay under your personal threshold without giving up everyday products.

Tolerance varies from person to person. The Lacto-Score tells you the risk, not a personal guarantee. To determine your individual threshold, talk to a healthcare professional or see the companion book.

HOW IT WORKS
1. Scan the barcode with your camera
2. Our database identifies hidden dairy ingredients (whey, casein, milk powder, lactose, milk solids, etc.)
3. You get an A to E score with a clear recommendation

WHO IT'S FOR
Lactose.help is built for people with lactose intolerance, meaning a digestive enzyme deficiency. It is not designed for people with milk protein allergies, which require total avoidance under medical supervision.

A VALIDATED METHODOLOGY
The Lacto-Score is based on the methodology of the companion book "Better Living with Lactose Intolerance", whose medical content has been reviewed and validated by registered dietitians. You get a structured, professionally vetted approach, not an arbitrary list.

A COMPANION BOOK
For deeper guidance, "Better Living with Lactose Intolerance" (available in English and French) covers the personal tolerance protocol, hidden lactose sources, restaurant strategies, and lactose free recipes. Written by Gauthier de Valensart, validated by registered dietitians.
