Sweep is a hidden camera detector and spy camera scanner for rooms you don't control: a hotel room, a vacation rental, a changing room, an office. Five physical checks look for the traces a hidden camera can leave: a device answering on the ports that cameras use, a radio signal, a magnetic spike, a lens glint, night-vision infrared. Then a coverage report tells you what was checked, what was flagged and where, and what this phone could not check.
No verdict, because no app can honestly give one. Every check has a blind spot and Sweep names each one on the report instead of hiding it, so you know what still needs your own eyes.
FIVE CHECKS, IN THE ORDER THAT FINDS THINGS FASTEST
1. Wi-Fi Device Scan probes the devices your phone can reach on this network for the ports that cameras, DVRs and video streams use.
2. Radios lists the Bluetooth devices and Wi-Fi networks your phone can pick up, strongest first, and says warmer or colder as you walk toward one.
3. Magnetic Field Scan calibrates to the room, then flags readings above that baseline at the six spots cameras usually hide in: smoke detector, alarm clock, USB charger, vent, mirror, TV and shelf décor.
4. Lens Glint Finder uses the flashlight to catch a lens reflecting straight back at you.
5. Infrared (IR) Viewer shows the night-vision LEDs your eyes can't see.
Run them as one guided sweep or open any check on its own. Skip a phase and the report says you skipped it. When two independent checks point at the same spot, it is marked PRIORITY: inspect that one first.
WHAT THESE CHECKS CAN AND CANNOT FIND
• A hidden camera recording to a memory card, on no network at all, is invisible to the Wi-Fi scan.
• A camera on the building's other network, or on mobile data, will not appear there either.
• Many hotel and guest networks keep devices from seeing each other, so the Wi-Fi scan can come back empty even when a camera is on the same network.
• The magnetic scan reacts to screws, speakers and wiring as readily as to a camera. It is a hint about where to look, not an answer.
• Infrared only detects cameras actively using night vision, and only on phones whose camera passes IR. Sweep tests yours during setup with a TV remote and tells you the result rather than assuming.
• Lens glint needs the lens roughly facing you, and dim light. Glass, LEDs and jewelry glint too.
• Sweep is not an RF bug detector. An audio-only listening device has no lens, no night-vision light and often no network, so none of the five checks is built to find it.
• A camera that is switched off, unplugged, or simply not using night vision can evade all five checks.
That last line appears on every report, every time.
EVERY SCAN ENDS IN A COVERAGE REPORT
Three sections: CHECKED, FLAGGED and LIMITS. Every check you ran, every flag it raised and where, and everything this phone could not check. Label the room, then email the report to yourself from your own mail app, share it, or copy the text.
WHO IT IS FOR
Travelers checking a hotel room or a vacation rental before they unpack, starting with the bedroom and bathroom. Renters and house-sitters moving into a place someone else furnished. Anyone using a changing room, a gym or a shared office who would rather look than wonder.
PRIVACY: YOUR SCANS STAY ON YOUR PHONE
Sweep has no account and does not upload your scans. Photos you attach to a finding are written to the app's private storage, never to your gallery, and leave the phone only if you choose to share a report yourself.
