A pentimento is the ghost of an earlier image hiding beneath a finished painting — a shape the artist changed and painted over, resurfacing with time. This game is built around that idea: something is always underneath.
Pentimento is a quiet, cerebral puzzle. Tap an arrow and it slides off the board in the direction it points, unless another piece sits in its path. Clear every arrow to solve the board. The rules take seconds to learn; the later boards will keep you thinking for a long while. Misjudge a move onto a blocked arrow and it costs you one of three lives, so every tap is a small decision.
It looks minimal and plays calmly, but don't be fooled. The boards are woven like little mazes, and they tighten as you climb. No timers, no pressure. Just you and the next move.
FOUR WAYS TO PLAY
• Classic: the pure puzzle. Read the board, find the order, clear it.
• Warp: the same grid, gently bent, so your sense of direction works harder.
• Fine Art: solve the board to reveal a masterpiece of public-domain art beneath it. The grid bends along the painting's forms, and the artwork fades in as the final piece slides away.
• Drift: endless, procedurally generated worlds with a slowly shifting warp. Every world has a shareable code, so you can hand a favorite to a friend.
A QUIET, LIVING SCREEN
A soft, mood-reactive soundtrack drifts beneath play, and the background breathes and ripples in time with it. Tune the music, effects, and visuals to taste. Or switch them off entirely.
