About this app

Soyogi AAC is a completely free communication app (AAC = Augmentative and Alternative Communication) for people who find speaking difficult. Tap picture cards to build sentences and have them spoken aloud.

Made for everyone who cannot use their voice, whether due to autism, cerebral palsy, aphasia, ALS, a tracheostomy, or selective mutism, and for their families and caregivers. No sign-up, no setup. It works the moment you open it.

■Talk
More than 200 picture cards covering the essentials such as yes, no, I want, and it hurts, plus feelings, body, food and drink, people, places, and time. Line up cards to build sentences like "3 o'clock, I want to go home" and the app speaks them naturally.

■SOS
One tap speaks "Please help me!" or "Call an ambulance!" loudly and clearly.

■Type
A large-key letter board for anyone who can read and write. The board matches your language: kana for Japanese, ABC for Latin alphabets, plus Cyrillic and Arabic.

■Show
Displays your words in huge text that fills the screen. When sound is not an option, just show the screen to the other person. It also works as a writing board.

■My cards and saved sentences
Create personal cards with your own photos, such as family members or favorite things. Save the sentences you use often and replay them with one tap.

■Switch scanning
A frame moves across the screen, and you can select by tapping anywhere. If you can move one finger, you can use every feature, including the letter board.

■For the SOS that is hard to say
Cards like "someone hit me", "someone took it", and "I didn't get it" let users express harm and trouble they could not voice themselves. The vocabulary was selected by the developer, a certified care worker in Japan, based on years of field experience.

■Private by design
Completely free, ad-free, and no registration. Works offline. Nothing you write ever leaves your device. You can export your cards and sentences to a file as a backup.

■14 languages
Japanese, English, Chinese, Spanish, Hindi, Arabic, Portuguese, French, Russian, Indonesian, German, Korean, Italian, and Bengali.

Commercial AAC devices can cost hundreds of dollars. We believe communication should never depend on money. Soyogi AAC is provided free of charge as a public good by Soyogi, a care and support counseling service in Japan.
