If you have not received your salary, the government will pay it on your behalf.
The money paid by the Korea Workers' Welfare Service on behalf of the employer is called "Advance Payment." However, when you actually try to find out more, you often get stuck on two points: you don't know which category you fall under, and the information regarding what you need to do and by when is scattered across various sources.
Unpaid Wages provides a single screen to help you review both categories.
■ First, which category do you fall under?
If the company is still operational, it is a "Simplified Advance Payment." If the company has received court approval for bankruptcy, rehabilitation, or insolvency, it is a "Insolvency Advance Payment." The amounts received, the procedures involved, and the deadlines are all different.
- Simplified — 7 million won each for wages and severance pay; the total limit is 10 million won. You can receive this even while you are employed.
- Insolvency — The limit covers the last 6 months of wages and the last 3 years of severance pay, with a maximum of 31.5 million won per person. This applies only to those who have retired.
For the Insolvency category, the monthly limit varies depending on your age at the time of retirement. The 40s age group has the highest rate, while those under 30 and over 60 have the lowest. If you enter your age, the calculation will be based on that range.
■ We also inform you of any amounts you may not receive.
There is a cap on advance payments. If 18 million won has been withheld but only 10 million won is provided, the remaining 8 million won must be claimed separately from the employer.
Many calculators do not inform you of this. Consequently, users assume the matter is settled once they receive the advance payment and end up giving up the 8 million won. For overdue wages, we display both the amount you are entitled to and the amount you cannot receive side by side.
■ If the deadline is missed, the amount becomes 0 won, regardless of the total amount.
This is why this app differs from calculators. Advance payments are missed more often due to the deadline than the amount itself. Furthermore, there is not just one deadline. - Filing a petition is required within one year from the day following your retirement date.
- Filing a lawsuit is required within two years from the day following your retirement date.
- Filing for bankruptcy is required within three years of your retirement date.
- Even the received confirmation of unpaid wages has an expiration date.
Clocks with varying starting points and lengths run simultaneously. We display your overdue wages on a single screen and show you the D-days starting with the most urgent ones.
The person facing the wage arrears is completely absorbed in receiving their money. In the meantime, the deadline quietly slips away.
■ Keep track of where you are now
Filing a petition → Issuance of confirmation of unpaid wages → Claim to the Korea Workers' Welfare Service → Payment. This is a journey that takes several months.
If you click on the steps you have completed, the first screen will change to "Next is claiming to the Korea Workers' Welfare Service" the next time you open the app. Then, the clock for that document will start ticking from the day you received the confirmation.
You do not need to do anything extra for the app. You simply need to click on the steps you have actually completed.
■ Late Interest Accrues Only Upon Claim
Late interest of 20% per annum accrues on overdue wages. Starting October 23, 2025, this applies not only to those who have retired but also to those currently employed.
However, this is not added automatically. You must specify on your petition or claim form that you are "claiming late interest as well." If you do not write this, you will only receive the principal amount and the process will end there. We calculate the total amount of overdue wages accumulated to date and inform you that you must claim it.
■ Standards Change Annually
The criteria for advance payments have changed significantly twice in the last two years alone. In October 2025, late interest was extended to include currently employed workers, and in August 2026, insolvency coverage increased from three months to six months, with the upper limit rising from 21 million won to 31.5 million won.
Therefore, the amounts and deadlines have not been loaded into the app. We retrieve the latest standards once a day. If you do not have internet access, enter the last amount received. If the standard is outdated, the app will automatically notify you of this fact.
■ We Say We Don't Know
This app has not been able to determine the validity period of the Certificate of Unpaid Wages. While many sources state "6 months," we have not been able to verify this in the relevant laws.
Therefore, we have left it blank rather than making it up. Instead of a D-day, it reads, "Please follow the period stated on the issued document or the instructions from the Employment Center." We will update this information as soon as it is confirmed.
■ For These Users

- Those who have filed a complaint but are confused about what to do next
- Those who want to know how much they are entitled to receive and if there are any unpaid amounts
