It is the day of Korea's college entrance exam (수능). Get through it, from the 6:30 alarm to the final bell, one minigame at a time.
The whole game looks like a test paper: the cover is home, every question is a game, results are marked in red pen and the ending is your report card.
■ The day, in order
6:30 alarm → pack your bag → reach the exam hall → Period 1 Korean → Period 2 Math → packed lunch → Period 3 English → Period 4 inquiry subjects → Period 5 second language → the final-bell OMR sheet
■ Every subject plays like the real paper
· Korean: read the passage and pick the statement that does NOT match. Skim the question and you fall for the trap.
· Math: actually work out exponents, logs, derivatives, sequences and integrals. Type short answers on a keypad, and decide whether to fight the killer question.
· English: hold in your cough while the listening plays, read the caption and answer in the quiet gap. Then vocabulary blanks.
· Social studies: a tricky timeline and primary sources. Science: physics, chemistry, biology and earth science.
· Second language: Japanese, Chinese, Arabic or Classical Chinese lookalike letters and word meanings.
■ Your own exam day
Write your name, inquiry subjects and second language on the application form, and your timetable follows. Family texts arrive the night before, and a pile of messages waits outside the gate when it is over.
■ Come back for more
· Retakes: every new attempt runs the clock faster.
· Mock exam: every question once, no retries. Go for grade 1.
· Pencil case: collect 15 keepsakes.
· Mark sheet: find the hidden achievements.
Good luck to everyone sitting the real exam!
