About this app

Enter your recital date and goal BPM, and Tempo Stairs counts back to tell you what tempo to practice at today.
Log the tempo you nail with one tap, and tomorrow's tempo is recalculated from your logs and the days you have left.

You can keep using your usual metronome and just log here when you nail it. "Nailed it" works even when this app's click is off. Or simply copy today's tempo onto your sheet music or into your practice notebook.

WHO IT IS FOR
• You have a recital, audition, exam, competition or concert date
• You are getting a fast passage up to tempo, a few clicks at a time
• You work out "what tempo today?" in your head every day, or forget where you left off
• You help your child prepare for a recital or competition and want to tell them today's tempo
Any instrument: piano, strings, winds, brass, guitar, drums.

START WITH FOUR FIELDS
Piece name, performance date, goal BPM, and the tempo you can play cleanly now. Fill in all four and today's tempo appears right away.
When you want to work on the hard spots separately, split the piece into passages later ("bars 33–40", "coda"). Each passage follows the piece's goal BPM unless you give it its own.

EVERY DAY
1. Open the piece: each passage shows today's tempo
2. The metronome is already set to that tempo
3. Tap "Nailed it" when you get through cleanly, or "Almost" for a near miss
That's it.

FALL BEHIND? IT RECALCULATES
Progress is never a straight line. Instead of a fixed schedule, Tempo Stairs recalculates today's tempo each new day from what you have actually played so far and how many practice days remain.
What you log today counts toward tomorrow's tempo, so your target doesn't move in the middle of a practice session.
If your pace won't get you there in time, it tells you plainly, for example: "You need +6 BPM per practice day." You can adjust your goal or date at any time.

WHAT YOU SEE
• A tempo chart for each passage that climbs like a staircase, with your goal BPM and performance date
• The passage that is holding the whole piece back
• A pace outlook once you have 3 days of logs (an estimate, not a promise)
• Practice time per passage, logged automatically while this app's metronome runs

METRONOME
• 20–300 BPM, ±1 / ±5 buttons, number entry, tap tempo
• Time signatures with 1–12 beats (half, quarter or eighth note beat); strong, normal or silent per beat
• Subdivisions (eighths, triplets, sixteenths) and 3 click sounds
• Stairs mode: raise the tempo automatically by a set step every few bars
• Clicks are placed by audio sample position, so the beat stays steady over long sessions
• The screen stays on while the metronome is playing and for 5 minutes after you stop, so you can still tap "Nailed it"

A SAMPLE PIECE IS INCLUDED
A sample piece with a piano recital 23 days away shows how today's tempo and the behind-schedule message look. You can't log to the sample; you can delete it and restore it from Settings.

GOOD TO KNOW
• One-time purchase. No ads, no in-app purchases, no sign-in
• No internet connection. Your logs stay on this device
• Export and import your logs as a file when you change phones
• Dark theme follows your system setting

NOT THE RIGHT APP IF
• You have no performance coming up and just play for fun
• You want a music practice log of minutes and streaks, or a practice tracker that records audio

Note: the metronome stops when the screen turns off or you switch apps (no background playback).
Note: there is no recording, tuner, sheet music viewer or reminders.
Note: today's tempo and the pace outlook are estimates based on your logs, not a promise that you'll make your date.
Recital date + goal BPM = today's practice tempo. Metronome & tempo log, no ads.
