Just did a series of tests comparing the results of Open Camera against other mobile phone camera apps. Used the same mobile phone, fixed to a tripod and all photos were taken with the same settings, in the same environment, all within 20 seconds of each other. And guess what? Open Camera actually gave the best results! Clarity, light balance and ease of use left the others in a poor light! Just goes to show: you don't need an app with a thousand bells 'n whistles to get a good result!

Love it... especially ability to set light level, focus & shoot by touching a point on the screen image. Turning off the video problem is now fixed up. I love the overlay feature for aligning the camera with a previous photo of the scene. ( I can now discard an old app I had just for that.) Many excellent options included for capturing the photo as you want it.

I love the customization of the app. Have to reduce rating though because on my latest phone (Moto G9), the options drop down closes after a couple of seconds when you change the resolution, so to change more than a couple of steps, I have to be quick and therefore may miss the res I want, so have to open again. My last phone - it used to stay open so this wasn't a problem. This seems to have improved but it takes an age to take a photo. Like many seconds.

What's new

Improvements for pinch zooming. Fixes for split-screen and multi-window mode. Support for zoom and on-screen ISO/exposure display when using camera vendor extensions (for supported Android 13+ devices).

"Touch to capture" option now supports starting and stopping video. No longer cancel panorama when rotating device too far in wrong direction.

Applied a 2s timeout for focusing with original camera API.

Various other improvements and bug fixes.
