About this app

Chitthi helps you put an account of what happened into writing, in your own words, and keep proof of when you wrote it.

Chitthi is an independent app. It is not a government app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting for any government, police force, court or the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA). It does not give legal advice.

• Speak or type in Hindi, Punjabi or English.
• When you are ready, Chitthi seals your words with the date and time. After that, if even one letter is changed, the code no longer matches, and anyone can check it at chitthi.org/verify.
• Your account is set out as a paper in the order of the columns used for recording information at a police station, ready to hand over, print or send.
• If the station will not record it, Chitthi prepares the two letters the law allows you to send next: to the Superintendent of Police under section 173(4), and to the Magistrate under section 175(3), of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.
• Free legal help: the national legal aid helpline (15100) and the Legal Services Authority for every State and Union Territory, as published by NALSA.

No account. No sign-in. Nothing is stored anywhere but on your phone, and nothing leaves it unless you send it yourself. The only exception is dictation: while you speak, your phone's own speech service turns your voice into words. If you would rather nothing left the phone, type instead.

Chitthi is not a police service and does not file anything for you.
