Convenient gestures control, advanced media folder settings, you can set including and excluding folders -- in ANY DEPTH. Not only one level under /sdcard now.
PlayQ rather than playlists, can handle videos, musics, and their MIXTURE. Also, you can put a folder, an artist, an album or like that into a PlayQ.

This is an updated review. I've been using this since it released. It has always been great. Also, thx to their support. The Pro Version used to be unlocked by an app. That unlock is no longer functional. They refunded my original purchase so I could upgrade through the app. Lots of very useful features, but buy the upgrade. The limited version is lacking and the ads are annoying. I will update this once I've checked out all of the updated features.

Meridian Was Great! I've been using Meridian for years and it's always been the only decent player that I could use to search through the folders on my external SD card. However, it just refuses to work reliably, almost never, since I transferred over to my new Samsung Galaxy S20+. It just keeps telling me that access to my SD card is denied, despite the permission to modify all files on there being checked 😕 It was an awesome application, so I'm really hoping that it can and will be fixed.

Very good player and almost perfect. However, when building its contents library many albums and songs within are doubled up. For ex. an album with 10 songs will show as two albums not 1 and once selected 20 songs not 10. I therefore manually delete every other, duplicated song.
