This is a superb port. That says it all. It works across our many android devices and versions and matches the desktop ports. It is very, very good.
Great port, worth the extra money. Frequently updated and good developer support. Thanks Dave
Good. Very good. What I'm after is intermittent reference to AIS info to assess the risk of visible traffic. Would my dAISy receiver through USB OnTheGo work with this app? A note on dAISy's page indicated it would, but this app's forum sent me no 'activation code' to let me in, and the developer hasn't responded to the question. So, I bought the app. Now I know, the dAISy receiver via USB OTG does exactly what I need. And it's OpenCPN nicely adapted to my tablet. [Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8" - no crashes yet.] Thanks.
Hi Dave, It looked good to me, so I went ahead and got it yesterday for my new cellphone, a 6 inch display quadcore with just 1Gb of RAM running Android 6.0 that costed just 99€. I have been spending MANY hours trying to load my charts, same charts that work perfect with my win10/laptop running OpenCPN 4.6.1 but it wasn't working even if I was telling the program wher my charts were located. Not until I PLACED MY CHARTS EXACTLY in the RIGHT DIRECTORY. I have placed "mycharts" directory inside the device storage under this path: /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/org.opencpn/mycharts .
3 stars only because while it works perfectly on my Samsung S7 Edge, it keeps crashing all the time on my Samsung Galaxy Tab S2. Such a pity, I was obviously more inclined to use this app on my Tab rather than my smartphone. Dave, are you able to do something to improve stability on the Tab S2 please? KR, Francois
Many people ask about the benefits of the Paid version of OpenCPN over the free. I can give a few reasons why it is much better. 1. Ability to store charts on SD-card. 2. Vastly more energy efficient - the app will sleep when screen is off (this is a configurable parameter). 3. Plug ins such as GRIB viewer, tides etc available. 4. A better user interface with more functionality and configurations.
OpenCPN for Android Version 1.0.16
1. Correct display compatibility for some Android Version 4.x devices.
2. Improve vector chart small scale display rules.
