About this game

About Angband (http://rephial.org):

Angband is a complex single player dungeon simulation. A player (you!) creates a character, choosing from a variety of races and classes, and then plays that character over a period of days, weeks, even months.

The player will begin their adventure on the town level where they may acquire supplies, weapons, armor, and magical devices by buying from various shop owners. Then the player can descend into the Pits of Angband, where they will explore the many levels of the dungeon, gaining experience by killing fierce creatures, collecting powerful objects and valuable treasure, and returning to town occasionally to buy supplies. Eventually, as the player grows more experienced, they may attempt to win the game by defeating Morgoth, the Lord of Darkness, who resides far below the surface.

Angband is a very complex game, and it may be difficult to grasp everything at first. A key resource for Angband players is the forum (http://angband.oook.cz), where you can ask for help, and also post compliments, complaints, suggestions, bug reports, and interesting experiences.

Don't forget to take a look into the excellent online manual of Angband, it contains a guide for new players and detailed descriptions of every aspect of the game: https://angband.readthedocs.io/en/latest/index.html

Included variants: FAangband 2, Sil-Q, FrogComposband, NPPAngband

Managed to get the app running after creating the Android\data\org.rephial.xyangband folder in version 10. Liking the controls so far, especially hiding keys other than numbers, and toggling off keyboard + on directionals. Definitely helps streamline gameplay on a mobile device. I found that pressing the middle "5" touch directional key doesn't pass a turn like on the numpad. Also "Fit Height" in portrait causes crash. Other than that I love the ribbons and other useful functions. Excellent job!

Thanks! The 5 key can be configured from the preferences. I will set the default behavior soon.

Its a good effort, but just too clunky on touchscreen. There's definitely been an effort to bridge the gap between the keyboard roots and mobile, but it doesn't go far enough. Too often for basic activities like repeatedly shooting a bow there's simply too much hunting around in lists of keys. I can't really blame the port developer, but at the same time I also can't recommend the port. It probably works fine on a tablet with a keyboard but at that point I'd suggest just playing on a laptop.

Really loved getting back into Angband. Good old retro game mostly just like I remembered; took some time getting used to the key mapping again (couple of places like targeting were well described). Unfortunately, I hit a critical error and my save file is corrupted. Doubt there is any work around except uninstall/reinstall. Guess this would be called a rogue-like nowadays. Rogue was first, however Angband might have been before it was an official genre of games.
