SpeakSharp is a fifteen-minute daily workout for two specific problems: losing your thread halfway
through a sentence, and not being understood the first time.
Most speaking advice is practice without measurement. You repeat the same habits — trailing off,
filling silence with "um", rushing until the words blur — without ever seeing them. SpeakSharp
listens while you speak and measures what actually happened: your pace, how long your pauses really
were, your filler words, your sentence length and your clarity. Then it names the one thing to fix
next.
A SHORT DAILY ROUTINE
Five timed drills train you to hold a thought using a fixed frame, to find the core of an idea
before you start talking, to stop fully at every comma and period, to hit your final consonants,
and to review a recording of yourself once a day.
READ ALOUD
Read a printed passage and be scored on how faithfully you read it — every word, every stop, every
ending. Play the recording back with each word highlighted as you hear yourself say it.
WRITE AND REHEARSE YOUR OWN WORDS
Write a passage, or a whole two-sided conversation, marking who says which line. Then rehearse it
turn by turn: you speak your lines and they are scored, and the app speaks the other side aloud in
a voice you choose. It can even write alternate phrasings of its own lines, so the same
conversation comes back in different words.
You can rehearse hands free — it starts listening when your turn comes, takes its turn when you
stop talking, and shows every score at the end — or tap through each line and read the score before
the next one.
Every save of a script is kept. Any earlier draft can be read and restored, and restoring adds a
version rather than replacing one, so nothing you wrote is ever lost.
SCORES THAT SUIT WHO YOU ARE TALKING TO
A sales presentation, a colleague, a child, an adult child, a government official and a prospective
home buyer each get their own targets for pace, sentence length, plain language and hedging. A
mixed mode rotates between them, so switching register on demand becomes its own exercise.
HONEST NUMBERS
If a recording could not be measured, it is not scored. You are told why instead of being shown a
zero you did not earn. Coaching is written by a language model on your phone, or it is left out —
never replaced with a canned sentence.
ON YOUR PHONE
Speech recognition and coaching run on the device. Your recordings and your transcripts are never
uploaded and never backed up anywhere. There are no accounts and no advertising. The practice
itself works with no signal at all.
Practice speaking clearly. It listens, measures what happened, and coaches.
