About this app

Orbot is a free VPN and proxy app that empowers other apps to use the internet more securely. Orbot uses Tor to encrypt your Internet traffic and then hides it by bouncing through a series of computers around the world. Tor is free software and an open network that helps you defend against a form of network surveillance that threatens personal freedom and privacy, confidential business activities and relationships, and state security known as traffic analysis.

★ Traffic Privacy
Encrypted traffic from any app, through the Tor network, gives you the highest standard of security and privacy.

★ Stop Snooping
No extra eyes know what apps you are using, and when, or can stop you from using them.

★ No History
No central logging of your traffic history or IP address by your network operator and app servers.

Orbot is the only app that creates a truly private internet connection. As the New York Times writes, “when a communication arrives from Tor, you can never know where or whom it’s from.”

Tor won the 2012 Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) Pioneer Award.

★ ACCEPT NO SUBSTITUTES: Orbot is the official Tor VPN for Android. Orbot bounces your encrypted traffic several times through computers around the world, instead of connecting you directly like traditional VPNs and proxies. This process takes a little longer, but the strongest privacy and identity protection available is worth the wait.
★ PRIVACY FOR APPS: Any installed app can use Tor via the Orbot VPN feature, or if it has a proxy feature, using the settings found here: https://goo.gl/2OA1y Use Orbot with Twitter, or try private web searching with DuckDuckGo: https://goo.gl/lgh1p
★ PRIVACY FOR EVERYONE: Orbot prevents someone watching your connection from knowing what apps you are using or websites you visit. All anyone monitoring your network traffic can see is that you're using Tor.

It says that it has connected when it actually hasn't. Also, even when turned off, it keeps showing a permanent notification. If you click on it, including by accident, it will open the app AND KICK whichever other VPN that was active at the time. And the only way to dispose of that dang notification is to force-stop the app. Also, you cannot see the bridges settings without first turning them off... At the same time, Tor Browser works for me fairly well.

App says connected but in actual it is not connected. It reveals the identity to everyone. If its connected it should not show results from my location and in my local language. While searching, I'm seeing several search results in my local language and that too from my current city. Not safe anymore. Also there is no update to this app in last 1 year. Are there no developers?

Love TOR, works great, sometimes a little slow, but with no ads, and because i can use it and select the apps that it works with, its VERY convenient (I can still access stuff that works on a local network, or things that don't nee a proxy with fast internet, and not have to switch when I want something through tor)! And so far seems to BARELY drain the battery even though its on most of the time.
