About this app

AirCasting is an open-source environmental data visualization platform that consists of an Android app and online mapping system. The application collects measurements from HabitatMap’s AirBeam and other health and environmental monitoring devices and relays it to the maps. With thousands of AirBeams measuring particulate matter worldwide and over a billion data points, the AirCasting platform is one of the largest open-source databases of community-collected air quality measurements ever created. By documenting and leveraging health and environmental data to inform personal decision-making and public policy, the AirCasting platform empowers community-based organizations, educators, academics, regulators, city managers, and citizen scientists to map air pollution and organize for clean air.

AirBeam is a low-cost, palm-sized air quality instrument that measures hyperlocal concentrations of harmful microscopic particles in the air, known as particulate matter, as well as humidity and temperature. The AirBeam measures particulate matter with proven accuracy and when used in conjunction with the AirCasting platform - or a custom solution - helps community-based organizations, educators, academics, regulators, city managers, and citizen scientists map air pollution and organize for clean air.

The AirBeam measures harmful microscopic air particles (particulate matter), humidity, and temperature. In mobile mode, the AirBeam can be worn to capture personal exposures. In fixed mode, it can be installed indoors or outdoors - it’s weather resistant and doesn’t need a shelter - to keep tabs on pollution levels in your home, office, backyard, or neighborhood 24/7.

You can see values if you're watching them in real time, but if you want to go look back at previous sessions you've recorded, the graph doesn't work. Also, it can't seem to find 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi so you can only use it over Bluetooth if you don't use cellular.

Thanks for your review Arthur. We're happy to hear you like the AirCasting app : ) Please note that we released an update to the AirCasting app today. The new version (v2.0.13) implements a Bluetooth auto-reconnect feature to improve the stability of the Bluetooth connection between the app and the AirBeam.

Keeps crashing all the time. Made me loose lots of data because of that. No Celsius, come on, the rest of the world doesn't use Fahrenheit. The app still needs to be more user friendly.

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing problems with the AirCasting app. We released an update to the app today that may solve the issue you were encountering. You can reprogram the AirBeam to output Celsius rather than Fahrenheit. Please email us at info@habitatmap.org if you'd like instructions on how to do this.
