Light field cameras recorded a whole field of light instead of one flat image. The company behind them closed in 2018 and its software went with it. Lightfield Studio brings those cameras back.
Connect over the camera's own Wi-Fi, browse the roll, pull pictures across, and refocus them on your phone.
WHAT IT DOES
• Connects to your camera over its own Wi-Fi
• Browses every picture still on the camera, with thumbnails
• Downloads the full light field file, not just a flat preview
• Refocuses after the shot: tap anywhere in the frame to move the focal plane
• Adjusts depth of field, so the background can fall away or stay sharp
• Fires the shutter remotely and reads the battery level
• Exports a finished JPEG to your gallery or to any other app
COMPATIBLE CAMERAS
Works with the Lytro® ILLUM and the first-generation light field camera (F01).
HOW IT WORKS
Every frame is a grid of tiny lens images, each one a slightly different view of the same scene. Lightfield Studio decodes that grid and re-sums the views to build the picture you ask for. Moving the focus point is not a blur filter — it is the same computation the original desktop software did, running on your phone.
WHAT YOU NEED
A working light field camera with a charged battery. Turn on its Wi-Fi, join that network from your phone, and connect. Nothing goes through a server: the camera talks to your phone directly, and the pictures stay on your device.
PRICING
The first three photos are free, permanently — enough to check that your camera still talks and that the results are what you expect. Beyond that, Pro is a yearly subscription that unlocks unlimited imports and exports.
This is an independent project. LYTRO and ILLUM are trademarks of their respective owner; the app is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Lytro, Inc. or its successors.
