About this app

SynthTab is a two-layer subtractive synthesizer built for the tablet, with a C++ audio engine that runs at low latency — fast enough to play, not just to tweak.

TWO INDEPENDENT LAYERS
Each layer has two oscillators with up to eight-voice unison, a four-pole zero-delay-feedback ladder filter, an amplitude envelope, two modulation envelopes and two LFOs. A 46-destination modulation matrix reaches across both layers, so one layer's LFO can open the other's filter.

SAMPLE AND GRANULAR
Record straight from the microphone or import audio (WAV, MP3, M4A, FLAC, OGG) into eight slots, then play it across the keyboard with loop points, reverse and pitch tracking. Or switch the oscillator to granular and shape the sound with grain size, density, position, spray and pitch spread. Samples are ordinary oscillator modes, so they inherit unison, the filter, the envelopes, the arpeggiator and the whole modulation matrix.

ARPEGGIATOR
Nine modes and a sixteen-step sequencer with a per-step gate, transpose and velocity lane.

EFFECTS
A full chain: distortion, phaser, chorus, EQ, stereo delay, reverb, compressor and a brickwall limiter — each switchable, in signal order.

PLAY IT
A multi-touch keyboard with velocity from key position, pitch and modulation wheels, and USB MIDI for a class-compliant controller. Twelve factory presets to start from, and save your own.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Nothing is uploaded. There is no analytics, no ads and no network code at all — the app does not even request internet access. Your recordings and presets stay on your device.

Built and tuned on a Galaxy Tab S8+. Designed for tablets in landscape; it runs on large phones too, though the dense panel layout is happiest with room to breathe.
