Before you hit record, know your mic.
MicLab records 12 seconds of your voice and scores what matters for a clean take: your level and distance, background noise, clipping, sibilance, and how much of the room is bleeding in. One tap, one number, and plain advice on what to fix.
What it checks:
- Level and distance: too close, or too far?
- Background noise and signal to noise
- Clipping and headroom
- Sibilance (harsh S sounds)
- Room echo bleeding into your voice
Test the mic you actually record with: record the passage in your own setup, export a WAV and pick it here. Same checks, same score. MicLab records through the raw microphone, without the phone's own voice processing, and shows what format a file was (WAV 24-bit, MP3 at 191 kbps). The Signal chain screen even shows what your device does to the sound before you trust the number.
Pick the input you want to test: the built-in mic, a wired headset, a USB interface or a Bluetooth mic. MicLab is not a live monitor: it measures a take and lets you listen back, it does not feed your mic to your headphones in real time (Android adds 150 ms or more of delay, and no app can remove that).
Private by design: the recording is analysed on your device and discarded after measuring. Nothing is uploaded. No account.
Free to check as often as you like: listen back to every take, see where the energy of your voice sits per third octave, and your first shareable PDF report is free. Pro (one time) adds unlimited reports, an auto-EQ preset from your measurement (Wavelet, Equalizer APO) that you can hear on your own take before you load it, side-by-side compares, your own logo on the report and CSV export.

What’s new
MicLab 0.4.0: the app opens on the instrument, not a manual. The level meter with its target zone sits ready before you record, setup prose folds away until you ask, the spectrum answers your finger, and a soft tick lands when your score reveals.
