About this app

eRest will try and help people minimize the effects blue light can have on their health. This app does this with 4 different features that remind users through notifications to take breaks from their device, turn off their device, and turn their device's night light on. The time when these notifications go out are customizable and the user can select which features they want to be active or not. In the future, improvements to the app will be made to improve the user's experience.

The main negative health effect this app will attempt to prevent is digital eye strain, which is a collection of symptoms that are caused by staring at device screens for extended periods of time. Some of the symptoms of this include dry eyes, itching, blurred vision, headaches, stiff neck and fatigue. Additionally, prolonged use of devices at night is able to negatively affect sleep quality which can also affect other aspects of a person's health. Through reminding users of taking actions to prevent these issues, this app hopes to lower the prevalence of digital eye strain and the negative health effects caused by blue light.
