Why does it work?
It is normal for language learners to experience more language exposure than language creation. Language creation is hard and needs to be nurtured.

There are different ways to increase your active vocabulary (words that you have the ability to use, not just understand). This includes intense repetition, consuming content you enjoy (books, series, movies), flashcards, etc. These methods are great and should be part of any language learners tool kit.

But, there is another way to increase your active vocabulary. Simply by using words. Ideally in your own personalized context.

Ratings and reviews

This underrated game is NOT for absolute beginners. There are many options to choose from when creating a match and you can PRACTICE grammar in supported languages ranging from beginner sentences such as "I like..." to intermediate and advanced ones. You can also start matches with people on a beginner level or even native level. The only problem this game has is its limited player base. Overall, this is a really fun game that is overlooked and underrated. I hope more people play this game!

Only been using it a couple days but it's fun. It would be nice to be able to check the matches you sent and update them if you accidentally had an ADHD moment and picked the wrong picture to go with your description because you were only half paying attention. I have trouble figuring out what some of the images are when it's my turn to write a description. Either I really don't know what it is or the image is just too simplistic in some cases.

So this is my new addiction, since I imposed a "digital wellness" time limit on Facebook. Polygloss can really soak up the time, but it's so educational! I'm assuming you know the basic drill, write something in your target language about one of four pictures and if your partner guesses the pic correctly you both get points. Experience much improved since you now see the content of matches when they're complete. Many pictures are highly obscure, which can be fun but is often frustrating.
