About this app

Welcome to the magicKal world of fractals!

These mystifying graphics are a wonder to behold but believe it or not, they all boil down to simple equations. Like:
f(z) = z^2 + c

Simple equations with complex numbers, that is.
The most famous ones are Mandelbrot set and Julia set (FracKtal app is based on the second one). They're remarkable shapes that are often self-similar and that keep revealing more details the closer you look. The really mind-boggling part is this: fractals aren't just stuck in textbooks - you can spot them in striking natural formations all around us. Also, they have applications in many scientific fields and in art.

Are you ready to zoom into the infinite landscape of fractals with us?

If your device lacks a gyroscope sensor, you can still explore the app but the experience will be limited. And, to make sure that everything is working as smooth as possible, a high-end device is recommended. But nothing is mandatory, except your will to experiment.

Options explained:

Refrackt – (re)create Julia fractal-based patterns with random real and imaginary parameters

Trans – utilize your device's gyro (move your phone around) to affect parameters and therefore transform patterns further (ON/OFF)

Upright – that’s an interesting mode I came up with while experimenting (ON/OFF); it’s faster than the default one; can you guess what the fractal will look like when "upright" is turned off - and vice versa? (practice makes perfect)

Save image – the format is PNG with your phone's screen resolution; pictures are saved into Downloads folder

+ – that’s an auto-zoom (ON/OFF); it may not be cutting-edge exactly but it can be handy if you lack a gyro

Another thing to try with FracKtal is manual zooming. Just pinch the far right side of the screen (in landscape mode) to zoom in/out and than rotate your phone around to get to your area of interest. You might want to turn the “trans” option OFF while zooming. Touch the far right side to reset the zoom back to normal. Feel free to combine auto & manual zoom.

Lastly, if you press the upper (or left in our case) physical volume button, you’ll get a slightly modified set of fractals. The lower volume button will then get you back to normal and another press gives you a heavily modified formula. Compare the outputs of all three. Can you notice a pattern? Pun intended. Enjoy the world of FracKtal!

Despite occasionally using the first-person plural, I’m a solo developer. I am dedicated to creating some experimental graphical stuff. If you feel like buying me a coffee or even a donut, I won't object. My Paypal: lordian12345@yahoo.com

After donating (donuting), as a humble thank you, we’ll create (if you want me to) a unique digital piece of generative abstract art just for you (non-AI one, nothing’s wrong with AI but that’s just too easy) and send it to your email address as a png picture file - with your explicit permission of course.

You could also use the email address above to send me a suggestion regarding the app.

Maybe it’s worth mentioning that we fully respect your privacy.

Thanks for being a part of this journey, enjoy and God bless.
