Root Checker

joeykrim
This application, Root Checker (Basic), will allow the user to confirm they have proper root ( superuser ) access configured and operational.

**** THIS APPLICATION WILL NOT ROOT THE DEVICE ****

*Feel free to email me with any questions. I always reply!*

To learn more about root, please see my free educational application, All About Root

Advanced Features, improved UI and more detailed results are in the Pro version, Root Checker Pro.

The goal of this application is to provide even the newest Android user with a simple method to check their device for root (administrator/superuser) access.
This is a very simple application to notify the user whether or not they have properly setup root access.

This application will test the device for root access using a very simple, quick and reliable method. The su binary is the most common binary used on Android devices to grant and manage root access. Root Checker will check and verify that the su binary is located in a standard location on the device. Root Checker will also confirm the proper permissions and flags on the su binary in addition to testing that access is granted by the su binary.

Many times users experience issues along the path of installing, configuring and gaining root access. For some users the process can seem complex while for others the process can seem simple. Regardless of the user's technical skill set, Root Checker, will quickly and correctly verify whether or not root access is 100% functioning. The process of confirming root access is sometimes known by other terms such as, gaining superuser access or gaining administrator access. Root Checker covers all these terms as they relate to one core function, being able to execute commands with root access.

If the Superuser or SuperSU applications are installed and working properly, these applications will prompt the user to accept or deny the root access request from Root Checker. Accepting the request will allow Root Checker to check for root access. Denying the request will result in Root Checker reporting no root access.

Gaining root access varies based on manufacturer, model, and carrier. If you're searching for root access to your device, this application will not help you. If you're interested in rooting your device, please use http://www.google.com to find the appropriate rooting support areas for your specific device. Other popular web sites which provide rooting guides are http://forum.xda-developers.com and http://forum.sdx-developers.com.

Please don't leave negative feedback about a concern, bug or issue! Instead, please email me, tweet me, contact me on my web site - http://joeykrim.com/contact, IRC, or on the forums (XDA, RootzWiki, SDX, etc.) with your feedback, suggestions and comments!
I do my best to assist as many people as possible and appreciate all the support that has made this application successful! Thank you!

Build Prop Editor

joeykrim
** VIEW OR BACKUP WITHOUT ROOT ACCESS**
** SAVE CHANGES WITH ROOT ACCESS **

** EMAIL ME FEEDBACK/QUESTIONS! **

This application makes modifying the build.prop file very simple and quick.

Features:
**Quickly backup and restore the build.prop file
**Easily view and edit (root required) the current build.prop
**View a few common build.prop tweaks
**Easily share/export the build.prop

Android uses the /system/build.prop file to store important device information. The type of information stored here ranges from how the device identifies itself (EVO, DROID, Galaxy Nexus, etc) with the Google Play Store to screen pixel density.

There are many options available through modifying the values in this file, build.prop. Many tweaks are available by modify the system values stored in the build.prop in order to allow better or custom performance and layout.

To start out, any user is able to view their default /system/build.prop file. They're able to see how the device identifies itself to the Google Play Store and to all applications. They're able to see custom settings regarding WiFi, themes, bluetooth, dalvik vm, default ringtones, etc.

Some common tweaks are: modify how the device appears to the Google Play Store in order to obtain applications, increase the screen pixel density (similar to adjusting the resolution), add custom ROM information, or adjust window animation speed.

Some of the common keys which users modify are: ro.build.fingerprint, ro.build.description, dalvik.vm.heapsize and ro.sf.lcd_density . Making modifications to these keys results in custom configurations of the /system/build.prop and custom layout/performance of the device.

Busybox is NOT required. All modifications are handled inside the application reducing the reliance on external applications. The application is self contained. Due to Android's standard security model, changes are only allowed to be saved with root access.

The application has a backup feature allowing backup copies to be made of the /system/build.prop file. Along with the backup feature, the application also has a restore feature allowing any backed up build.prop file to be restore and become the active /system/build.prop file. The application also has a maintenance feature allowing the user to delete backup copies in order to keep their collection organized and updated.

The device information section of the application displays the common key and values used by applications, including the Google Play Store. This information allows the user to better understand the values applications use to view their device.

Please email me, tweet me or find me on IRC and provide feedback, suggestions and comments. I'm always interested in improving my applications!
Thanks for your support!

Additional technical details:
Common locations or names for the build.prop file are either system/build.prop or /system/build.prop .
The common modes of operation on the build.prop file that are supported are: modify, change, adjust, save, backup and restore.
Some common build.prop keys that users edit are: ro.build.description, ro.build.fingerprint, dalvik.vm.heapsize and ro.sf.lcd_density

WiMAX Key Checker

joeykrim
** WARNING: ONLY for the Sprint HTC Evo or Sprint HTC Shift with root access. WiMAX (4G) key check will NOT work on ANY other device or under ANY other conditions. **
** DISCLAIMER: The average user will not encounter these issues and will not need this application. **

Purpose: Troubleshoot WiMAX (4G) connection issues on the Sprint HTC EVO or Sprint HTC Shift due to potentially missing RSA Encryption Keys. Assist Sprint HTC EVO or Sprint HTC Shift enthusiasts by providing a simple method of WiMAX (4G) RSA Key presence verification.

This application allows the user to easily find out whether or not their WiMAX RSA Key is present. The WiMAX RSA key is required in order for WiMAX to properly operate.

A very important step in troubleshooting WiMAX connection issues includes determining whether or not WiMAX RSA key is present.

Unfortunately, sometimes during the process of customizing and modifying the Sprint HTC EVO or Sprint HTC Shift the WiMAX RSA key is erased. If the key is lost, WiMAX will not work.

Please provide feedback based on the limited set of features currently present. This is my first application and I've done my best to make sure it provides the basic functionality. In future versions I hope to improve many aspects.

Please bear with me as I work to improve it! Feel free to email me with suggestions, comments and feedback!
