Welcome to the wonderful world of Webtoon, a destination for hugely popular webcomics with fans around the world. What originated as digital comics in South Korea has blown up to become a universe of creators, their stories, and the readers who love them.

The aptly named Webtoon is the premier destination for catching up on your favorite webcomics. We’re taking a look at two of its most essential aspects: episodes and coins.

As soon as you open Webtoon you’ll be prompted to create a profile. While you don’t need one to read the webcomics, you’ll get custom recommendations from the app if you do. We suggest choosing a few of your favorite topics right off the bat. This helps populate the "For You" section where all your current and suggested series live.

Webtoon chapters are called episodes and new ones are released on the app daily. Tap “Originals” to see which ones came out that day, or choose “Genre” and peruse topics like fantasy, comedy, action, and more. Originals are licensed by Webtoon, while the Canvas section features independently released series straight from the creators.

Find a webcomic you don’t want to miss out on? Tap “Subscribe” to receive push notifications on your phone when new episodes are released.

Most episodes typically aren’t available all at once. While some webcomics release a whole season in bulk, most release a new episode each week. After a certain amount of time, all of a series’ episodes will be available to read without a paywall, but sometimes you just can’t wait for that next chapter of your favorite story. Don’t worry! There are ways to read episodes early.

There are tons of complete series available, but you’ll need a pass to peruse more popular or re-issued webcomics. Each day you’ll receive one Daily Pass – your key to unlocking a single episode of a completed series. The episode you unlock is available to you for 14 days. If you're looking to view one of the latest episodes of a current, ongoing series before its general release date, you can do so by buying a Fast Pass.

If you signed up for a Webtoon account, you’ve already got five coins in the bank. Coins unlock episodes which feature the Fast Pass icon, with each episode costing 3-5 coins. Unlike Daily Pass episodes which are only accessible for 14 days, episodes purchased with coins stick around for as long as the webcomic is on Webtoon.

You can purchase as few as 10 coins at a time, though they get cheaper if you buy in bulk. Low on funds? There are other ways to put some coins in your digital pocket.

Getting more coins is as simple as reading episodes from Webtoon’s Canvas collection during a set timeframe. Check the Ongoing Events banner in the For You section to see current promotions. Also, look out for promotions from individual webcomics, which occasionally give away coins you can use exclusively for unlocking their episodes.
