Let Hinge help you meet someone new

Hinge is self-proclaimed as a dating app “designed to be deleted.” With unique prompts that you can respond to with playful answers via voice recording, multiple choice, or the classic written response, it’s easier to present your authentic self and make a real connection.

When creating an account, you’ll be asked to provide basic information like your name, birthday, location and gender. You’ll also select your ideal relationship type, family plans, education and more. Add your favourite photos and videos of yourself to your profile to show off your personality and interests. Then, answer three prompts, so that other users can get to know you better.

Upload a mix of silly and serious photos and choose questions that will offer a more rounded version of yourself. Add captions to your photos for comedy or clarity. Your photos and responses can be great conversation starters.

Choose from a variety of prompt categories – like 'About me', 'Let’s chat about' or 'Storytime' – then choose a question and provide a written answer. Or, if you’d rather record an audio response, choose a prompt and tap record. The audio should automatically save to your profile, but you can go back and record an answer at any time.

Now that your profile is complete, you can start sending and receiving likes and messages. Tap the 'H' symbol on the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen to go to the Discover tab and view profiles compatible with your preferences. Did a photo or response make you laugh or want to know more? Tap the heart icon for that section to send a 'like' or add a comment to get the conversation started. If they’re just not your cup of tea, tap the 'X' icon to pass them.

If you have preferences about the age, religion or distance of the people that you see on your Discover tab, you can activate a 'Dealbreaker' – tap the profile icon on the navigation bar > tap the filter icon > set a preference. Once you turn on a Dealbreaker for a specific preference, you won’t see any profiles outside of that frame.

Tap the star icon on the navigation bar to explore a separate feed of users who are most your type based on common preferences, called Standouts. This small batch of users is made up of popular profiles with the same Dealbreakers as you. Because of their stellar profiles, Standouts receive the most attention from other Hinge users, but don’t let that deter you from reaching out.

Send a Rose in the app to a Standout to automatically show up at the front of their Likes list and increase your chances of getting a match. You get one Rose each week that you can send to anyone who strikes your fancy, and you can purchase extra Roses at any time.

Tap the heart icon on the navigation bar to view the 'Likes You' tab and see who swiped right on your profile. You’ll see each person’s profile individually and either skip or match with them. If you skip a Like, it will disappear from the 'Likes You' tab. But when you match, it will move to your Matches tab under the chat icon on the navigation bar, so that you can start chatting.
