What are Dynamax and Gigantamax?

Dynamax is a temporary effect during battle where Pokémon can grow enormously large and gain extra HP. They’re also able to use more powerful moves called Max Moves. Gigantamax is an even larger effect – both in size and impact – affecting just a handful of Pokémon. You can now experience DMax and GMax Pokémon yourself in Pokémon GO.

How to participate:

Complete the To The Max! Special Research to catch your first Dynamax Pokémon
Check out the map for Power Spots, temporary locations where you’ll find Dynamax and Gigantamax battles
Collect Max Particles (MP) by visiting Power Spots, exploring certain distances, or purchasing them in the shop
Use your MP for all things Dynamax and Gigantamax – entering battles, catching Max Pokémon, and upgrading their Max Moves to be even more formidable in battle
Defeat the Power Spot bosses for the opportunity to catch the powerful Pokémon and keep track of them through your Pokédex

Entering Max Battles

You need at least one Max Pokémon and enough MP to enter Max Battles. From there, head to a Power Stop to team up with three other trainers for DMax Battles, or form a team of up to 40 people for GMax Raid Battles. Choose the best Pokemon to form your battle party, and beat the boss before everyone's Pokemon faint.

Helpful tips for Max Battles:

Fill up your Max Meter by attacking or dodging (swiping) into Max Charges to transform your Pokémon into its Dynamax or Gigantamax form
Watch out for the Single Target Indicator which means the boss is targeting you – prepare to dodge at the right time
Make sure your Pokémon is trained up and has learned their Max Moves so you can use them in Max Battles
In Dynamax Battles, if all your Pokemon have fainted before the boss is defeated, continue to cheer for your teammates to help charge the Max Meter
After winning a Max Battle, you can pick a Pokémon to place at the Power Spot in order to help others – and earn you candy
