How to earn and use resources in Clash Royale

In Clash Royale, mastering the different resources is essential for progressing and strengthening your deck. There are seven distinct types of resources in the game. Here's a breakdown of all of them and ways to earn them effectively.

Gold

Gold is the primary currency in Clash Royale. It is used to upgrade cards, buy new cards from the shop, enter challenges, and to even create a Clan. You can't obtain gold via trades from other players, rather you can earn it in the following ways:
  • Chests: Every chest you open contains gold. The amount varies from less than a hundred to thousands depending on the chest type and your arena level. Higher arena chests like Magical and Legendary Chests offer more gold than the starting levels​.
  • Donations: Another way can earn gold is by donating cards to your clanmates. Common card donations give 5 gold, while rare card donations yield 50 gold​.
  • Challenges and Events: Participating in special challenges and global tournaments can also reward you with significant amounts of gold.
  • Battle Victories: Winning battles, especially the first 20 victories of the day, also provides a small but steady stream of gold.
  • Purchasing in the Shop: You can exchange gems for gold in the Shop tab.

Gems

Gems are the premium currency in Clash Royale, used to buy chests, gold, or to enter challenges and tournaments. You start out in the game with 100 Gems in your pocket, and can get additional gems in the following ways:
  • Purchasing: Gems can be bought directly in the Shop.
  • Chests: Some chests also contain a few Gems, although they are not guaranteed. A chest can contain up to five Gems.
  • Special Events and Challenges: Occasionally, winning in special challenges like Clan Wars and Mastery Tasks may reward you with Gems​.

Cards

Cards are the backbone of your deck and come in four rarities: Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary. They showcase your strength and your account’s value. The higher a card's value and rarity are, the harder they are to obtain. You can acquire cards in several ways:
  • Chests: Opening any chest will yield cards. Higher-tier chests and those from higher arenas provide more cards with a better chance of acquiring rare and legendary cards.
  • Shop: You can purchase specific cards from the shop via gold. You can choose to buy from a roster of three cards which rotates daily.
  • Clan Requests: Requesting cards from your clan is another way to accumulate the cards you need for upgrades​. You can put out requests every 8 hours, depending on your Arena level.

Experience (XP)

Experience is crucial for leveling up your King Tower, and making it tougher and more durable. You can't really spend it in traditional ways, rather it contributes to upgrading your King Tower. You can gain experience in the following ways:
  • Upgrading Cards: Every time you upgrade a card, you gain experience points. However, since this requires gold, it can only provide limited XP.
  • Donations: Donating cards to your clan is the easiest way to get XP, making it a double benefit, rewarding both XP and gold.
  • Achievements: Earning achievements can grant XP.

Trophies

Trophies determine your rank and which arenas you can access. Winning battles earns you trophies, which moves you up the Arenas. However, losing can also drop your trophy count, potentially causing you to drop an Arena level​.

Magic Items

Unlocked at level 5, magic items are rare resources that you can use to upgrade cards, open chests, or earn gold more quickly. They include wild cards, magic coins, and more. You can find magic items in the following ways:
  • Season Pass Royale: The paid version of the season pass offers magic items as rewards.
  • Special Events and Challenges: These sometimes provide magic items as rewards.
  • Chests: Magic items may appear when opening chests.
  • Shop: Magic items can sometimes be purchased through special offers in the shop.
  • Trophy Road: Rewards from the Trophy Road can include magic items.
By focusing on donations, winning battles, and participating in events, you can maintain a steady stream of resources to help you progress through the game. Mastering these resources will make your progression smoother and more strategic as you climb through the ranks in Clash Royale.
