Mel Hammond writes and edits books for American Girl, which is pretty much the best job in the world. She started creating stories when she was three years old and later earned her master’s degree in children’s literature. She’s especially interested in improving diversity in the children’s publishing industry. Besides books, her favorite things are trees, rainbows, and dairy-free ice cream. She lives in Madison, Wisconsin with her partner and two mischievous cats.
