This is a special Trade eBook edition of a new translation of Erich Maria Remarque’s classic of World War I, All Quiet on the Western Front; it is the first new translation of Remarque’s novel in thirty years.
The release of Edward Berger’s film version of All Quiet on the Western Front (nominated in 2023 for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture), has sparked renewed interest in the extraordinary novel on which that film is based. A new translation of that novel, prepared by acclaimed translator Katharina Rout, has long been in preparation, and a full academic edition of the translation, published in Broadview’s standard format—with a scholarly introduction, annotations, and appendices of contextual materials—is scheduled for publication early in 2024. The Trade edition, released March 1, 2023, is published in eBook format only.
Acerca del autor
Katharina Rout is Professor Emerita at Vancouver Island University. In preparing a fresh translation she has aimed for prose that is blunter, more direct, and more immediate than that of earlier translations into English; her translation is immensely and intensely readable.
