Her style was innovative for her time because she depicted the working class’s life which often took unexpected romantic turns in her stories. Some of her best known works are "Little Lord Fauntleroy", "The Secret Garden" and "The Lady of Quality". Her daughter Vivian Burnett wrote her mother’s biography three years after her death. It was entitled "The Romantic Lady".
