About this audiobook

"Wilson narrates with emotional depth, conveying all of Rose's intelligence, inquisitiveness, and fear as she's hunted by otherworldly beings." - AudioFile

“A joyful, furious romp through dark places, Tingle proves he's as good at fear as he is at love.” ―T. Kingfisher, bestselling author of What Moves the Dead

From beloved internet icon Chuck Tingle, Camp Damascus is a searing and earnest horror debut about the demons the queer community face in America, the price of keeping secrets, and finding the courage to burn it all down.

Welcome to Neverton, Montana: home to a God-fearing community with a heart of gold.

Nestled high up in the mountains is Camp Damascus, the self-proclaimed “most effective” gay conversion camp in the country. Here, a life free from sin awaits. But the secret behind that success is anything but holy.

And they’ll scare you straight to hell.

A Macmillan Audio production from Tor Nightfire.

My experience of this novel was a 3/5 stars, but that's not to say that this book was in any way bad. I think I had very different expectations of the story going in, but think that others may find great enjoyment out of the story. It's great that the main character was both queer and explicitly autistic, written in a way that actually read as autistic before it was ever stated outright. I appreciate that a lot. I also think people with religious trauma can find a lot of catharsis in this, especially early in their deconstruction journey. So that is a definite plus. There were many interesting concepts in there, though I feel some of them could have been handled better. I personally felt a little too spoon fed and like some of the elements were a little too dumbed down or made a bit cartoonish for my tastes, but not enough so that it ruins the story itself. I think it could definitely be worth a read to anyone interested. It just wasn't personally my tastes exactly.
