The beginning was too dragged out,particularly the mother's illness and her treatment towards Marie. In an audiobook, one can imagine having to listen over an hour the routine with no progress. I found the book in terms of its "mafia" to be a let down because the only indication of it throughout the book was when the ladies were gossiping and one has to wait for further books to see if there's any truth to it. However, the relationship between Mateo and Marie was enjoyable,it was beautifully written.
