About this audiobook

Ellie managed to escape from husband Kayden’s vicious abuse—and since learning from her mother-in-law that he’s taken his own life, she’ll never have to worry about him again. But instead of relief, Ellie is now experiencing terror in the form of frightening phone calls, hostile strangers on the street, and what appears to be deliberate sabotage of her writing career. Thinking she’s spotted a reflection of Kayden’s face only makes her wonder if she’s having a breakdown... again. With the help of a new man in her life, Ellie intends to head to Scotland and find out once and for all what is real and what is illusion—but the deeper her investigation goes, the darker the truth becomes...

Ellie grew up with a mother suffering from mental illness. She is now working at a good job having just left her abusive husband behind. She has even published a book. Then her mother in law tells her that her husband is dead, that he committed suicide and it is her fault. Ellie thinks that since he is now gone she will be able to live a normal life and leave the past behind. Can the past ever be left behind? She starts getting weird phone calls and someone is leaving bad reviews on both her book site and her work site. She is in danger of losing her job and having her book deal flop. Then she meets Freddie and he says he will help her figure out what is going on and find the person that is causing her trouble. What she finds is so horrible , the secrets so bad that she can barely stand it. What secrets can be so damaging? Then her mother calls with more secrets and Ellie knows what she has to do to make it right, but does it? This book has a lot of twist and turns. It has some vulgar language and both spousal and sexual abuse. If those are triggers for you than this book is not for you. If you don't mind the above and want a spine tingling psychological thriller than you will like this book. The narrator had a lovely accent and did a good job. There are parts of the book I did not enjoy, but I kept wanting to know what would happen next and what the next secret would be. I need to listen to the excerpt of the book first and be a bit more picky in choosing books. Thanks to N.J. Moss, Ella Lynch, Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for making the audio book available to me.
