I’ve read a lot of books about organizing, decluttering and cleaning. I tried every single strategy from these books but none made my house look clean on a daily basis. It just shifted from hidden spaces out in the open. It ends up in keep boxes and keep piles all over my house. But then I become a mother. And it felt even worse to realize that my house isn’t a safe environment for a baby once he begins to move on his own. I tried harder and ended up worse than ever!!! Again, I searched the internet for solutions and was eventually ready to pay for help – but then the pandemic hit Germany. I was lost once again; I had failed once again and I eventually gave up. I accepted that I would never have a tidy and clean house and should probably just focus on being a mother. A few days later I found a new video on YouTube - Dana’s video. I was hooked! While I listened to Dana’s explanations why keep boxes don’t work it hit me why I had failed so many times. I wasn’t decluttering, I was shifting stuff! I started watching Dana's videos, started to work through her steps while listen to her videos and her podcast (from the beginning) and a few months later – after I gained enough confidence to spend money on an English audio book. I rediscovered Audible. I started listening to "How to manage your home without losing your mind" and only a few minutes in, I was convinced that I need the second book “decluttering at the speed of life”, too. I listened multiple times to both books while I was implementing daily tasks und decluttering my house. I started making visible progress, so visible, my husband recognized something going on here. Like Dana, I hadn’t told my husband what I am up to – I can’t stand his face while he was mentally preparing himself to catch me up after I failed once again. Like Dana said in her books, my house significantly grew larger! My rooms felt bigger. My living room eventually started looking like a living area instead of a playground/workout/office/procrastination place. The thing is, I had an office all the time, which means a room where my desk was set up with a printer, a good office chair and everything I could need but I never used this room for any other purpose than to put things there. I've listened to Dana's previous books and her podcast while I actually decluttered. This help me keep focus and I made real progress every time I start to work through a place. The things I had pulled out of the overflowing cupboards and shelves that ended up in keep boxes, left those places. Surprisingly without keep up piling somewhere else in my house (like before). I'm not done yet and I still figure things out, but it gets better EVERY SINGLE TIME! There are now cupboards and drawers, I would let people open without freaking out about what they would think when they see what I try to hide… You can tell I'm a huge fan of Dana and her concept! It works for me! When nothing worked for me, I considered myself to be stupid or lazy because taking all my clutter out of my cupboards where it's been hiding made my life much harder instead of easier as every book I’ve read before promised. It didn't stand out to me that it wasn't me – it simply was the method of pulling everything out and the keep boxes that I couldn’t handle! NEVER EVER PULL EVERYTHING OUT! Get Dana’s new book and work yourself through her strategies once at a time. It’s 100 really short strategies. The only thing that would be better than buying the book would be buying the audio version! 😉 Let Dana talk you through every single step while you have your hands free to act, to declutter or if you need to - do the daily stuff. Like have a friend with you to help you through. The only thing I don’t agree with Dana is laundry day – I just couldn’t handle this amount of clothes at once. A load a day works for me – so feel free to find out what works for you – maybe it’s laundry day, maybe it’s one load every day. I preordered the audio version and got an advanced copy to write a review.
