Miracle of the Eucharist Lanciano that occurred in 700 was just the beginning. That was 1250 years ago. Had that miracle taken place, and then the flesh and blood disintegrated, as would have been normal, the miracle would have been none the less a miracle. The priest's faith had been renewed. The entire town, the whole country for that matter, became aware of the miracle. Pilgrims flocked to Lanciano to venerate the Host turned flesh. Belief in the Eucharist had been reborn. The gift from the Lord was complete.
But that's not all. The Miracle is ongoing. The Host-turned- Flesh, and the wine-turned-Blood, without the use of any form of preservative, is still present in the reliquary.
"Bob and I have traveled all over the world, everywhere from the Shrines of the Holy Land to the Shrines of Europe, Mexico and Canada. But although we had pilgrimaged to Italy many times, we had never visited the land of my ancestors. I think, in all of us, there is an unquenchable thirst to visit the land of our ancestors. For me, that is Sicily. My father was born there and came to this country at age three, and my maternal grandparents' roots were also in Sicily. One year, we decided to pack up our daughter and grandson and find Sicily!"
God’s Messenger of Divine Mercy
Bob and Penny Lord trace the life of Saint Faustina and the Origin of Divine Mercy Devotion.
There is a time for Mercy and a time for Justice. Expelling Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden was an act of God’s Justice. But even then, as the Angel was blocking the way to the Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden,1 and ushering our first parents out into the cold world, God was showing His Mercy to us through His promise of the Messiah, the Redeemer. God has always lived up to His Word. Throughout Salvation history, we have been beneficiaries of God’s Mercy. And very few times has He let loose His Justice. Sodom and Gomorrah was God’s Justice. Noah and the Ark was God’s Justice, but also mingled with God’s Mercy. The miracle of Moses and the Jews crossing the Red Sea was God’s Mercy, coupled with God’s Justice on the Pharaoh’s charioteers. When finally we are in the last days, with possibly the end of the world at hand, and we are about to face the Last Judgment, at that time the God of Mercy will give way to the God of Justice.
