In 1988 Ericka and Julie Ingram began making a series of accusations of sexual abuse against their father, Paul Ingram, who was a respected deputy sheriff in Olympia, Washington. At first the accusations were confined to molestations in their childhood, but they grew to include torture and rape as recently as the month before. Lawrence Wright is a staff writer for the New Yorker and the author of ten books of nonfiction, including In the New World, The Looming Tower, Going Clear, and The Terror Years, and one novel, God's Favorite. His books have received many prizes and honors, including a Pulitzer Prize for The Looming Tower.
