I'd describe this book as an HBO series in waiting. It's cinematic in a horrid way that evokes a great image. The setting in The 7 1/2 deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle is truly special. The isolated story is great and the broader ideas and implications are good enough to leave a reader satisfied yet wanting in the end. I think I'll personally look into the other books in the series after reading this one as the ending hook was good enough for me, but I could see another reader perfectly satisfied with it's conclusion. These points lead me to leaving The 7 1/2 deaths as a 4 out of 5 only because there's lingering feelings for the setting and the characters that the author MAY never touch up on. Regardless, a good read and a great mystery.

What a strange and dark tale! Halfway through I didn't think I'd like it in the end but here I am giving it 5 ⭐'s. It seemed like just another Agatha Christie style murder mystery but it turned out to be delightfully original! It feels annoyingly confusing for the first few chapters, but the end makes it well worth the journey. 👌
