About this audiobook

Library Journal's Romance Pick of the Month

A love-averse Korean royal court cuisine instructor is waylaid by a gorgeous professor—and prince in disguise—who will do anything to prove to her that love and happily ever after can be theirs.

Emma Yoon dreams of opening a culinary school in Los Angeles. To that end, she teaches Korean royal court cuisine to hopeful brides of upper-crust Korean families. Thanks to her godmother, a renowned matchmaker, business is booming. But when rival matchmakers plot against her godmother using Emma’s single status, she must save her godmother’s reputation and her dreams by finding a perfect-on-paper husband—even if she’s not ready for love. Meeting the gorgeous and irresistible Professor Michel Chevalier is not part of her plan.

Prince Michel Chevalier refuses to marry a woman handpicked by his elders. If he must spend the rest of his life in service to his country, he wants to do so with someone he loves by his side. With only three months left until his arranged engagement is formally announced, Michel escapes to Los Angeles to find a bride of his choosing, someone who loves him for himself rather than his crown. Serendipity leads him right to Emma Yoon, who might just be the woman of his dreams.

A Macmillan Audio production from St. Martin’s Press.

While I enjoyed the overall story and concept, I definitely struggled to stick with it until the end. There wasn't anything in particular that stands out, but I wasn't invented in the story until Emma and Michel were on the page together. It was a cute story, but the final 4 chapters were the best part for me, and that's saying a lot since I love audiobooks!

2.5 It was okaaay... I felt like this book could have been significantly shorter. I felt like it was going in circles a lot about whether or not these characters could/wanted to be together. I couldn't really feel their connection throughout the book, and it felt a bit forced. I enjoyed moments that they had together, but the book as a whole seemed a bit repetitive. I also didn't like how the ending/resolution of an all-or-nothing was resolved. I felt like one character definitely had to lose a lot, even though they didn't say that. In the end, it was okay. The romance wasn't my favorite and I did enjoy the side characters and the friendships. I listened to it on audio, so it was easy to get through, but I also didn't love the narration. Not sure if the rating would've been different if I hadn't read it via audio. Not a loss, but not a win. It is what it is. Don't think it'll be super memorable for me.

This was too long in the same way a 20-episode K Drama should have been edited down to 12 episodes. It was cute, but I never felt invested in the characters. I don't want to be mean and say the dialogue felt stiff and unnatural -- so let's call it poised.
