Verity adores her cat, Mabel, and is desperately sad when she dies. Remembering her recent school lessons about the Ancient Egyptians, Verity decides to mummify Mabel and keep her hidden. Jacqueline Wilson is a hugely successful children’s author and has won a number of prestigious awards, including the British Children's Book of the Year and the Guardian Children's Fiction Award. In 2002 Jacqueline received an OBE for services to literacy in schools. She was the highest-borrowed author in British libraries in the last decade.

Sophie Thompson was born in 1962 in London, England. She is an actress, known for EastEnders (1985), Emma (1996) and Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994). She has been married to Richard Lumsden since 1995. They have two children. Sophie Thompson is an award-winning actor of stage and screen as well as a children’s author. She played Mafalda Hopkirk in the Harry Potter franchise.
